Demanding Release of IDP Chief Maulana Sheikh Abdus Salam

From: K A Huq
Subject:IDP Chief Maulana Sheikh Abdus Salam

To Whom It May Concern

Government did not inform us or family of Maulana Sheikh Salam about his whereabouts. We had informed our friends in the media immediately after he was picked up from his residence by plain clothed men in the afternoon of 23 March 2009. After 2 days efforts our journalist friends were able to find out that Maulana Salam was picked up from his residence by a team of CID (Criminal Investigation Department of Police) who later on sent him to Dhaka Central Jail. After trying for 2 days on 29 March 2009 his wife and relatives were able to meet him at Dhaka Central Jail gate visitors' window.

Initially it seems that vested quarters are trying to implicate Maulana Salam in the case of 2001 bomb blast (Paltan meeting of Communist Party of Bangladesh CPB) which is a 100% false allegation. There was no case or even any General Diary (GD) in any Police Station of Bangladesh against Maulana Salam until the CID created this false allegation.

By the grace of Almighty God we are very happy to know that many of our local and foreign friends are compassionate to Maulana Salam since they are convinced that Maulana Salam is clean and genuinely working to contain militancy and extremism in the name of religion.

We are thanking all those who have been supporting us in this difficult time. We are seeking from all our welwishers continuous support for his final release and registration of IDP to operate effectively as a democratic political party.

Best regards,

Kazi Azizul Huq

Assalamu Alaykum.

Chief of Islamic Democratic Party (IDP) Maulana Sheikh Abdus Salam, who has been a relentless promoter of religious tolerance and interfaith harmony was picked up by group of plain-clothed people from his residence in Dhaka, at around 5:30 P.M. on 23 March 2009.

There was no trace of Maulana Sheikh Abdus Salam until 7 p.m. last evening when a journalist confirmed that he has been shown arrested and under custody of Inspector Motiur of CID and remanded for 4 days in CPB Paltan Bomb case.

We still do not know his whereabouts and do not know whether he has also been victim of TORTURE IN CUSTODY which is CRIMINAL OFFENCE according to international humanitarian codes and laws.

It seems that he is being implicated in false case according to any pre-determined agenda.

We are very sad that we have been target of oppression after we have done so much to save our armed forces and the nation.

Sincerely yours,

Subject : IDP Chief Maulana Sheikh Abdus Salam abducted or arrested?

Assalamu Alaykum.

Chief of Islamic Democratic Party (IDP) Maulana Sheikh Abdus Salam, who has been a relentless promoter of religious tolerance and interfaith harmony was picked up by group of plain-clothed people from his residence in Dhaka, at around 5:30 P.M. on 23 March 2009.

Till now there is no trace of Maulana Sheikh Abdus Salam – causing severe concern about his whereabouts.

Several agencies including DGFI confirmed that the IDP Chief Maulana Salam was not picked-up by them.

In recent days Leftists, Islamists, Seculars and God-less communities are active in eliminating tolerant Muslims and peace-preaching Islamic scholars and political parties with the ulterior intention of establishing lawlessness and anarchy in Bangladesh. Maulana Salam’s disappearance is creating grave concern and various forms of doubts and suspicion in our mind. Maulana Salam has been actively combating religious hatred, intolerance and culture of religious extremism.

We urge you kindly to exert your kind influence in finding whereabouts of this tolerant Islamic leader a oblige us.
